Time Travels

(a study of ancient Egypt, Greece, and
Rome)
| Project
Scenario:
|
|
The fifth grade humanities classes have been asked to host an Ancient
Civilization's Fair. Three civilizations will be highlighted at the
fair. They have been divided between the three classrooms. Each student
group will be responsible for researching their topic and designing a
visual presentation for the fair as well as an oral presentation. The
Ancient Civilization Celebration will be held in the Multi Purpose Room. |
Tools and Resources:
|
|
We will make use of the many fine books in our Media
Center, plus books checked out from your local library. Mrs. Herzog
will be helping us locate wonderful print materials, plus recommending
video resources available from the Media Center. |
Activities:
|
| 1. After presenting the
scenario, we will brainstorm information we need to develop in order to
respond to the directive. We will review the grading rubric and discuss
its implications. |
|
2. Student groups will be assigned a specific topic for
research. |
| 3. Students will meet with their group to
discuss their roles, responsibilities, and topic framework. |
| 4. Participants will decide on
their method of presentation. Suggestions include posters, models, travel
brochures, Power Points, plays, interviews, etc. Each presentation must
include an evaluation to be given to the rest of the class (game,
crossword, matching exercise, etc.). |
|
5. Students will read print material, view videos, and
use the websites provided to gain information on their selected topic. |
| 9. Each student group will
share their learning with their classmates. |
Project Sharing:
 |
|
We will have an Ancient Civilization Celebration.
Student groups will dress in costumes representing the civilization of
their research. You will set up a display in the Multi Purpose
room. All the 5th grade students will be both participants and
audience. Each group will give a short presentation relating to
their topic area. |
