A Golf Middle School Activity Bus runs
everyday at 7:00 A.M. and 4:30 P.M. The
cost of bus transportation to and from
extra-curricular activities was included in your
Registration fees. Clubs are open to all
students in all grades unless specified.
Clubs must have a minimum of twelve (12)
participants in order to run.
Art Club
Mondays,
3:30-4:30 P.M.

All students are invited to participate.
If you enjoy being creative, join Golf Middle
School Art Club on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30.
We will be experimenting using a variety of art
materials, working independently and as a group!
Projects will include drawing, painting, and
sculpture. Stop by and check it out!
Baseball Club
Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30 P.M.

All students are invited to participate.
From Babe Ruth to Greg Maddux, Ty Cobb to Three
Fingers Brown baseball has lasted the test of
time. In this club students will
learn about the history of baseball, proper
playing techniques, basic skills and playing
with a team first mentality. Even if you
know nothing about the sport but would like
learn more this is the club for you. You
will learn how to correctly hold the bat, catch
and field the ball at all positions, throw the
ball with some "zip" and even run the bases.
Battle of the Books
Wednesdays, 12:00-12:40 P.M.

Open to all students in grades 5 and 6.
In Battle of the Books, students will be reading
many exciting books throughout the year.
We will discuss the books during lunch and
recess on Wednesdays. Beginning in
February, we will participate in "battles" with
other schools at the Morton Grove Public
Library. Students will be competing
against other schools to see who really knows
the most about the books.
Chess Club
Mondays, 3:30-4:30 P.M.

All students are invited to participate.
During chess club, students will learn how to
move the chess pieces and learn basic strategies
of the game. Everyone will then participate in a
chess tournament.
Chinese Language Club
(Beginning
Monday, October 15, 2007)

Level 2 (Existing members): Wednesdays,

All students are invited to participate.
If you have read the book, The World is
Flat, you'll understand the importance
of learning the Chinese language. All
students who would like to learn to speak
Mandarin Chinese are invited to join this club.
The club is taught by Mrs. Chang-Sawyer who has
taught Chinese at local Chinese schools for
several years.
Cricket
Thursdays, 3:30-4:30 P.M.

All students are invited to participate.
Participants will perform a variety of cricket
activities and challenge all the key basic
skills: batting, bowling (pitching),
throwing, catching and cricket related movement.
All the activities can be performed by all
participants (including their parents!)
and each challenge can be modified to suit each
individual’s level of skill or cricket
experience. The goal is to give all participants
a positive and fun experience that will
encourage them to take up the sport, and provide
them all with information relating to where they
can go on to play and watch cricket in the
future.
Ecology Club

Ecology Club
partners with the Morton Grove community to
enhance environmental awareness. We
participate in projects that promote
environmental awareness and stewardship such as
storm drain stenciling and GMS recycling with
"Paper Retriever".
Expressions

All students are invited to participate.
Expressions
is a club for all students at Golf who like to
be creative and express themselves through fine
arts! Students will participate in drama,
dance and music activities such as
improvisation, skits, student choreographed
original works and creative movement for the
purpose of self-expression. The emphasis
is on FUN as well as an exposure to various
forms of fine arts.
Sports Club
Thursdays, 3:30-4:30 P.M.

All students are invited to participate.
Fitness club is open to all students and will
meet Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. We
will focus on correct exercise programs and
complete a 40-minute workout each day. Workouts
will vary, and students will be taking different
fitness tests and using technology to monitor
their progress.
Homework Assistance
Mornings from 7:30-8:15 A.M. and Tues.- Thurs.
from 3:30-4:30 P.M.
GMS Faculty
All students are invited to participate.
Homework Assistance is available to any student
who would like a quiet place to study before or
after school. Each session is facilitated
by one of our teachers who are available to help
students whenever possible. Students
must report to AM Homework Assistance by 7:40
A.M. to be admitted.
Knitting Club
Mondays, 12:00-12:40 P.M.

All students are invited to participate.
Learn to knit! Students will make scarves,
gloves, cell phone, iPod cases, and purses.
Needles and yarn will be provided. Come
and have a good time!
Lego City Planning
Thursdays, 12:00-12:40 P.M.

All students are invited to participate.
Students will work together and use their
creativity to create a city from Lego. The
students will design a city from the beginning.
They will decide on the most important
facilities for their city, design them, build
them, and lay them out in a functional model.
Mathcounts

Mathcounts
is a club for students who enjoy the challenge
of math problem solving. The club is
designed to increase enthusiasm and enhance
achievement in math.
Peer Leadership
Thursdays, 12:00-12:40 P.M.

All students are invited to participate.
The Peer Leadership Club is designed to help
students develop and enhance leadership skills
and to provide students with opportunities to
utilize those skills to positively impact GMS.
Students will focus on the skills of
communication, assertiveness, conflict
resolution, empowerment, positive self-esteem,
and addressing peer pressure. Students
will explore their beliefs and attitudes about
these areas and will assist in the development
of a group Action Plan to help other students
develop these skills, as well.
Red Hot Reader

All students are invited to participate.
The Newspaper Club is responsible for creating a
publication on the news and issues involving the
Golf Middle School community. Students
will report on numerous school related
topics such as current events, sports, and
entertainment.
Red Streak
Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30 P.M.

Open to all students in grades 5 and 6.
Kids will learn to do cheers, dances, tumbling,
and other school spirit activities during this
club. They need to wear comfortable clothing and
tennis shoes. This is a year long club.
School Store
Tuesdays and Fridays,

All students are invited to participate.
The school store will be open during
lunch/recess on Tuesdays & Fridays. The
school store will consist of taking inventory,
ordering supplies, cashier, record keeping,
making advertisements, creating special
promotions, and creating Golf spirit with
ordering Golf Cardinals supplies.
Spanish Club
Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30
P.M.

All students are invited to participate.
The purpose of the Spanish Club is to provide
students with a chance to explore aspects of
Spanish speaking countries such as their food,
music, and arts. Students will also be
taught how to dance salsa, meringue, and other
dances. The Spanish Club will also do
community service projects.
Student Council

invited to participate.
The main purpose of Student Council is
to provide a variety of activities and programs
that encourage student participation.
Student Council organizes school dances, raises
money for various causes and runs events for
different holidays such as the Valentine's Day
Rose Sale.
Volunteer Service Club

All students are invited to participate.
The members of the Volunteer Service Club
at Golf Middle School are learning important
skills during the completion of their service
projects which closely align with our school
district's mission statement. Students who
volunteer to help and serve others are learning
how to cooperate with both their peers and
adults. They will also obtain the
intrinsic rewards that come from devoting their
time and talents for these worthwhile
activities. Successful people give of
themselves and help those in need. We hope
that our students will receive benefits from
participating in the
Volunteer Service Club that will last a
lifetime. As a result of assisting others,
we want them to learn valuable lessons and be
more successful people in their lives.
Web Club
Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30 P.M.

All students are invited to participate.
Students will enhance their skills using the web
as a research tool and become educated consumers
on the web. This club provides students
with a place to work on school projects using
the internet in a safe environment.
