Inclement Weather & Emergency Closings

We understand that closing schools due to bad weather significantly impacts families. While we prioritize keeping schools open for students’ academic and social well-being, safety remains our top priority when making closure decisions.

How We Decide

The Superintendent of Schools makes the final decision based on several factors, including:

  • Road Conditions – Safety for buses, staff, and families traveling to school
  • Bus Operations – The ability to start and safely operate school buses
  • Snow & Ice Accumulation – Current and expected conditions
  • Building & Parking Lot Safety – Accessibility for students and staff
  • Temperature & Wind Chill – Consideration of extreme cold risks
  • Weather Forecasts – Predictions from meteorologists
  • Other Niles Township School Districts – Regional coordination when possible

How You'll Be Notified

The decision to close or delay school is made by 6:00 a.m. and communicated through:

  • Website Updateswww.golf67.net and www.EmergencyClosings.com
  • Automated Calls – Ensure your home and cell numbers are up to date in Infinite Campus
  • TV & Radio Announcements – Check CBS, NBC, ABC, WGN, Fox, CLTV, WGN AM, WBBM AM, and The Zone (FM)

Once schools open for the day, they will remain open—even if conditions worsen. Many parents rely on our decision to leave for work, and sudden early closures may leave students without supervision.

A Parent's Choice

We recognize that no single decision works for every family. If you believe conditions are unsafe for your child, you have the right to keep them home. We respect and support your decision.

Stay safe, and thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students and staff secure during inclement weather!
